Q#08 - WHAT CHARACTERISTICS DETERMINE THE QUALITY OF A VEHICLE'S WINDSHIELD?   
           
A#08 - AS IT RELATES TO WINDSHIELDS, LOOK FOR THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS:                                                                

A.   The manufacturer of your new windshield part - O.E.M. (Original Equip. Mnfr.) parts are preferred,     
B.   The thickness of the outer layer of glass - the thicker ones better withstand the impact of debris,
C.   The thickness of the middle layer of vinyl acetate - this thickness is critical in accidents, 
D.   The thickness of the inner layer of glass, this thickness adds to the windshield's overall thickness & strenght,
E.   The purity of these three layers - the fewer the micro-imperfections the better the visibility,     
F.   The lamination of these three layers into one - delamination will effect the lifespan and strength of w/s, 
G.   The curvature of the windshield - the better the curve the less distortions, waves, pressure cracks, etc., 
H.   The integrity of accessories - built-in antennas, GPS, heating elements, etc must work properly,            
I.    The integrity of attachments - the proper attaching of moldings, mirror buttons, ect.,                             
J.    The tincture of the windshield - variations of tint occur between manufacturers,                
K.   The ceramic bands, painted borders, matrixes, etc.- variations exist, some will cover the dash VIN #.

A#09 - URETHANE IS A BONDING AGENT (ADHESIVE) USED BY THE AUTO MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY TO BOND THE VEHICLE'S GLASS TO THE VEHICLE.   THE APPLICATION OF THESE URETHANES INVOLVE THE PROPER APPLICATION OF ACTIVATORS, CLEANERS, PRIMERS, AND THE URETHANE ITSELF. CURING TIMES AND CONDITIONS ARE ALSO OF IMPORTANCE IN THIS PROCESS.

A#10 - URETHANE IS NOT ONLY ESSENTIAL FOR CREATING A PROPER SEAL BETWEEN THE GLASS AND THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE, BUT IT ALSO IS OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE IN CREATING & MAINTAINING THE MANUFACTURER'S ORIGINAL STRUCTURAL STRENGTH OF THE VEHICLE.   IN SIMPLER TERMS THIS MEANS THAT IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THE URETHANED PARTS MUST REMAIN IN THEIR URETHANED POSITIONS SO AS TO MAINTAIN OR EXCEED THE ORIGINAL IMPACT AND COLLISION DESIGNS OF THE VEHICLE.
